Wer immer schon wissen wollte, wie man mittels eines Tampons und einer Tonsur auf skandinavisch-absurde Weise in den Vollrausch driften kann, der muss ihn sehen, diesen ersten Spielfilm des norwegischen Dokumentaristen Rune Denstad Langlo. Sein von launiger Country-Musik befeuertes Schneemobil-Roadmovie atmet den Geist von Jim Jarmusch und Bent „Kitchen Stories“ Hamer, geht in seiner Lakonie und kurzgeschorenen Trockenkomik aber noch weiter.
Hauptfigur Jomar, ein früherer Ski-Profi, ist depressiv. Er arbeitet an einem Skilift in Trondheim, will eigentlich aber lieber zurück in die Psychiatrie. Oder im Fernsehen die „Tunnel Disaster Week“ schauen. Dann aber erfährt er, dass er am Polarkreis ein Kind hat, von dem er nichts wusste. Er fackelt die Arbeitsstelle ab und ist schon unterwegs. Gen Norden.
Dort lauert arktische Landschaft bis zur Schneeblindheit, aber auch allerlei skurriles Personal – nicht zuletzt jener junge Mann mit dem Tampontrick. Die Komik liegt im großartigen Timing, im pointierten Sound Design und im stoischen Gesicht des Hauptdarstellers: Immer wenn Jomar aufgeben will, gibt es dann doch wieder einen Grund weiterzufahren. Anyone who has ever wanted to know how to drift into a drunken stupor using a tampon and a tonsure in an absurd Scandinavian way has to see this film – the first feature film by Norwegian documentary filmmaker Rune Denstad Langlo. His snowmobile road trip movie, powered by humorous country music, captures the spirit of Jim Jarmusch and Bent “Kitchen Stories” Hamer and even goes beyond them with its laconic dry humor. The main character Jomar, a former pro skier, is depressed. He works at a ski lift in Trondheim, but would rather go back to the psychiatry. Or watch “Tunnel Disaster Week” on TV. But then he discovers he has a child living in the Arctic Circle that he never knew about. He leaves his job and sets off northward. Along the way there’s enough arctic landscape to cause snow blindness as well as all sorts of bizarre people – including that young man with the tampon trick. The comedy strengths lie in its great timing, pointed sound design and the stoic face of Jomar. Whenever he wants to give up, he always finds a new reason to continue. Go north – to the quickest and most beautiful final shots of the year.

Geb. 1972 in Trondheim. Arbeitet seit 1998 als Produzent für Motlys A/S. Der dokumentarische Kompilationsfilm „Alt For Norge“ („Too Much Norway“), seine erste Arbeit als Regisseur, entstand 2005 zum 100-jährigen Jubiläum des Landes als Kinofilm und zwölfteilige TV-Serie. Nach „99% Æerlig“, einem Film über die Hip-Hop-Band „Forente Minoriteter“ ist „Nord“ sein erster Spielfilm.

Born in Trondheim in 1972, he has been working as a producer for Motlys A/S since 1998. His first work as a director, a documentary compilation made to commemorate the country’s centenary in 2005 entitled “Alt For Norge” (“Too Much Norway”), was created as both a theatrical feature and a 12-part television series. After “99% Æerlig”, a film about the hip hop band “Forente Minoriteter”, “Nord” marks his first feature film.
