An der Peripherie ist diese Kleinstadt im Staate Washington ein gewöhnlicher Reihenhaus-Alptraum im All-American-Dream-Stil, nebst Rasenmähen, Bingospiel und Langeweile. Im pulsierenden Herzen aber ist Leavenworth „das bayerische Dorf“ der USA – und als solches ein echtes Global Village. Diese hochkomische, gleichsam tiefsinnige Dokumentation porträtiert eine Gemeinde, die sich Schuhplattler und Kuckucksuhr kurzerhand importiert hat, um für Touristen aus aller Welt attraktiv zu werden. Bleibt die Frage: Was ist eigentlich Heimat?

From a distance, this small town in the US state of Washington is the usual terraced house nightmare in the style of the all-American dream, complete with lawn-mowing, bingo and boredom. At its pulsating core however, Leavenworth is a “Bavarian village” and as such is a real global village too. This funny, yet deep, documentary portrays a community that has no problem importing cuckoo clocks and the “Schuhplattler” (a traditional Bavarian dance) to attract tourists from all over the world. The question remains: What does “home” actually mean?
