Man muss die Regeln kennen, um spielen zu können. Man muss sie zu brechen wissen, um zu gewinnen. Alexandre (Jérémie Renier) hat das von seinem Kollegen Jean- Claude (Benoît Magimel) gelernt. Wobei Kollege in diesem Fall die Steigerung von Feind bedeutet. In der Firma, wo beide angestellt sind, geht es um die großen Deals, um Geld und Ansehen, um Krieg also. Und da ist bekanntlich alles erlaubt. Wo einzig Hierarchien und Karrieren zählen, gilt die Losung: Solidarität ist Selbstmord. Die Schauplätze, auf denen die schmutzigen Schlachten um den Aufstieg in der Firma ausgetragen werden, sind allerdings nicht die Büros, Konferenzräume oder Kantinen. Echte Männer kämpfen beim Sport. In langen, grandios komponierten Sequenzen zeigt diese Business-Kabale die eiskalte Welt des Unternehmer-Workouts: Da wird beim Squash mit dem Chef nicht um Punkte, sondern um den Job gespielt. Da werden beim Golf zwischen zwei Löchern Existenzen verhandelt. Da brechen beim Canyoning, während des finalen Betriebsausflugs, schließlich die archaischen Triebe hervor, auch beim Meisterschüler Alexandre. FAIR PLAY ist ein mörderisches Intrigenspiel, dabei von wahrer Tragödien-Wucht: Ein Shakespeare in der Squash-Halle.
You have to know the rules in order to play. You have to be able to break them in order to win. Alexandre (Jérémie Renier) has learned this from his colleague Jean-Claude (Benoît Magimel). In the company where they both work big deals are made, it’s all about reputation and money; about war, to put it bluntly. And this means it’s no holds barred. Where only hierarchies and careers count, the rule is: solidarity is suicide. But the battles about getting ahead in the company are not fought in its offices, conference rooms or canteens. Real men take it out in sports. This business intrigue plays out the cold, cold world of entrepreneurial workouts in long, grandly composed sequences: squash with the boss is not about scoring points, but jobs. Whole lives are negotiated between two holes on the golf course. And when on their last company outing they go whitewater rafting, archaic instincts emerge, even in top élève Alexandre. FAIR PLAY is a murderous play of intrigue, yet with the true force of tragedy: Shakespeare on the squash court.

Studierte an der Conservatoire Européen d’Ecriture Audiovisuelle. Sein Kurzfilm „Squash“ wurde 2004 für den Oscar nominiert und gewann zahlreiche Festivalpreise. Er schrieb das Drehbuch und führte Regie beim Pilotfilm der TV-Serie „Élodie Bradford“, bevor er mit „Fair Play“ sein Kinofilmdebüt gab.

He wrote the script for and directed the pilot to the TV series “Élodie Bradford”, before making his feature film debut with “Fair Play”.
