Georg Hajdu

geboren 1960 in Göttingen, gehört zu den ersten Komponisten seiner Generation, die sich systematisch der Verbindung von Musik, Naturwissenschaft und Informatik verschrieben haben. Nach Studien in Köln (bei Georg Kröll, Johannes Fritsch, Krzysztof Meyer und Klarenz Barlow) und - als DAAD-Stipendiat - am Center for New Music and Audio Technologies in Berkeley, promovierte er mit der multimedialen Oper "Der Sprung" (Libretto: Thomas Brasch). Er gründete 1996 nach weiteren Aufenthalten am IRCAM und dem ZKM zusammen mit seiner Frau, der Pianistin Jennifer Hymer, das Ensemble WireWorks,und unterrichtet Theorie und Musikmedien an der Hochschule für Musik Detmold, Abteilung Münster.

Er schrieb Publikationen zu verschiedenen Themen im Grenzbereich von Musik und Naturwissenschaft. Zu seinen Interessens- und Forschungsgebieten gehören Mikrotonalität, algorithmische Komposition, Echtzeit-Interaktion und der Einsatz neuronaler Netzwerke in der Musik. Sein Internet-Performance-Environment quintet.net, wird auch in einer Produktion der Münchner Biennale  2002 für zeitgenössische Oper zum Einsatz kommen wird.

born in Göttingen, Germany in 1960, is among the first composers of his generation dedicated to the combination of music, science and computer programming. After studies in Cologne and at the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies in Berkeley, California, he received his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley.  In 1996, following residencies at IRCAM and the ZKM, Karlsruhe, he co-founded the ensemble WireWorks with his wife Jennifer Hymer and assumed a position for music theory and media at the Münster branch of the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. In 1999, he produced his full-length opera Der Sprung (libretto: Thomas Brasch).

In addition to his compositions, which are characterized by a pluralistic attitude and have earned him international prizes, Georg Hajdu published articles on several topics on the borderline of music and science. Among his areas of interest are microtonality, algorithmic and interactive composition.

Currently, he is composer-in-residence at UC Berkeley's CNMAT where he works on his Internet performance environment quintet.net.
