"Block Beuys" and the basic repair by the Hessian County Museum of Darmstadt, Germany
Official Points of view and discussions
The Hessian conty museum of Darmstadt will undergo extensive building projects and redevelopment measures during the coming years which will also concern the rooms of "Block Beuys" . The manager Dr. Ina Bush demonstrates on Thursday 30th November, 2006, how the architectural cover of "Block Beuys" will look after the reopening of the museum in 2011.
In 1970 when Joseph Beuys began building his complex of works the six offered rooms of the 2-nd floor got a a new natural coloured bright cotton garment . The floor was covered with a grey carpet. In 1984 the work complex room 1 was addeted. In the course of renovation this room received also a light beige cotton garnment. The garnment as well as the carpeted floor show strong signs of wear which strongly impair the general view of the work complex.
In coordination with the Joseph Beuys Estate the director has decided not to renew the garnment after the architectural reorganisation of the rooms. The walls are cleaned -like Beuys did at the exhibition "West art" (Cologne in 1981) and the walls will be painted with Gargano-lime. The carpet floor is replaced with an industry screed in the first three great rooms. The cabinet rooms with the glass cabinets receive either also a screed ground or parquet. The sloping covers of the cabinet rooms are straightened. The fourth cabinet will be linked with the space linking up to the east. This new space will serve as a media space of the interlinking with other museums which accommodate works of Joseph Beuys. It is guaranteed that the position of the single works of "Block Beuys" remains unchanged.

SAVE THE BLOCK BEUYS!
An international cultural treasure is in danger.
The block Beuys has to go renovated, the wall garnment from cotton and the carpet should be removed permanently. As a replacement white walls and wooden floors or even screed ground are planned.
This would become an irrevocable destruction from the artist Joseph Beuys own-handed arranged environment. If the carpet on which Beuys has subscribed will disappear the remaining properties will lose their special relation to the space forever.
Between the installation and the " architectural surroundings" cannot be distinguished! The artisthimself has looked at the walls -which were existing at the beginning of his installation -as a partof his work and has greeted its interaction with his work properties by Nachdunkelung . For this we have In return} there are enough historical evidence.
If the right of the autor is not respected by the museum management in this meaningful case, this is to be seen as an attack on the art of those which are paid for to preserve valuable pieces of art from damage. Unfortunately, the right of the autor is questioned just by this kind of renovationand a possible damage is accepted.
Against this irresponsible behaviour we will offer resistance and call on everyone to pleafor the preservation of this unique international piece of art!
