This text shall help you to understand how the Aborigines think about their life and their Dreaming. I want to inform you about two important symbols about the Aborigines Dreamtime. First there is the Rainbow Serpent and the second symbol is the Uluru or Ayers Rock, which is known by all people in the world.

But first I ask you two questions!

What do you think about our creation-story, and our history of the earth?

Who has created all the animals, plants and people?

The Aborigines say, it was the creation by the Ancestors. The Ancestors are, for example, the members of your family, who lived a very long time ago.

The Aborigines think that the Ancestors were creatures. Dreamtime means, the beginning of all living things. The Aborigines think that the Ancestors, the human and animal creatures created the landscape and the first people.

But what about the laws of the people?

For us, laws are something people make, but for the Aborigines it is the creation Ancestors that made the laws.

Now I introduce to you one of the creatures, it is the rainbow serpent.

We all know the coloured rainbow in the sky and we all know a serpent or better a snake. It is the small animal, which can be very dangerous sometimes. For the Aborigines it is a very big animal, which lives in the earth and created the world.

At the time of creation the rainbow serpent travelled across the country and made rivers and valleys with its long , heavy body. After its trip it went back to its hole in the ground and than the rainbow serpent called out loudly „Come out!, Come out!". Suddenly all the animals, birds and plants, which had been sleeping under the ground came out and began to live on earth.

Next the rainbow serpent determined the rules of conduct, the laws and the structure of the society for all living things on earth. I give you one example. If a plant or an animal didn`t obey the rules, it was turned into a stone. These stones become hills and mountains. So the mountains were created.

On the other hand the serpent rewarded some plants or animals by turning them into people.

So the people, the Aborigines, were created.

The serpent is only one of the creation animals. There are many more of them which are kept in the memory of the people.

Next I want to outline to you the significance of the Uluru. The Uluru is the Koori name of the worlds oldest and largest monolith.

The Aboriginal people have lived in the Uluru area for 10.000 years now and the monolith in the middle of Australia has a very special religious meaning. The Aborigines name the Uluru the Dreamplace and in this place the creation power or the creation force of the Dreamtime is saved.

So there is no doubt about that the Aborigines are very angry because a lot of tourists visit and climb up the Uluru every year.

They disturb the Dreamtime and the future of the Aborigines.

We cannot tolerate this behaviour.
